Trauma Therapy In Utah

For adults who are tired of feeling on edge, overthinking, shutting down, people-pleasing, or being pulled back into old experiences — trauma therapy can help you understand what’s behind these patterns and feel more grounded in the present.

What Trauma Can Feel Like

Woman feeling overwhelmed, reflecting emotional distress and trauma responses

You may know that what happened is over, but parts of your life can still feel shaped by it:

  • You’re always wondering if something is wrong or waiting for the other shoe to drop.

  • You replay conversations afterward, questioning what you said or whether someone is upset with you.

  • You shut down during conflict, then spend hours thinking about everything you wish you had said.

  • You have a hard time saying no or disappointing people, even when you know you should.

  • A small mistake or criticism can turn into hours of shame, self-doubt, or beating yourself up.

  • Certain memories, situations, or relationship dynamics can bring back feelings you thought you had moved past.

Sometimes you can point to a specific experience that changed things. Other times, the impact comes from patterns that built over time, such as:

  • growing up around criticism, conflict, unpredictability, or emotional neglect

  • experiencing betrayal, rejection, abuse, or an unsafe relationship

  • spending years feeling responsible for other people’s emotions, closely monitoring their moods, or trying to avoid upsetting them

  • repeatedly feeling unsafe, unwanted, controlled, or unable to be yourself

These experiences can continue to shape how you feel, relate to others, and respond to stress long after they are over. You don’t need to have a PTSD diagnosis or be certain that what happened “counts” as trauma. Therapy can start with what is affecting you now.

How Trauma Therapy Can Help

Trauma therapy can help you understand why certain situations affect you so strongly and begin changing the patterns that no longer serve you. Over time, the goal is to feel less controlled by old experiences and more able to respond to what is happening in the present.

Therapy may help you:

  • move through conflict without shutting down or spiraling afterward

  • notice a trigger without feeling completely overwhelmed by it

  • spend less time analyzing conversations or worrying that something is wrong

  • set boundaries without being consumed by guilt

  • trust yourself more when making decisions

  • feel safer and more connected in your relationships

  • think about painful experiences without feeling pulled right back into them

My Approach To Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy is tailored to what you need, with attention to pacing, safety, and the patterns affecting your life now. The goal is to create meaningful change in the patterns that keep affecting your life so you can feel more grounded, trust yourself more, and have greater flexibility in difficult situations.

Extended Sessions Available: Trauma work can sometimes benefit from having more time. Extended sessions of up to 80 minutes are available for clients who want additional space for deeper processing. Longer sessions can provide more time to settle into the work, process difficult material, and feel grounded before the session ends.
